Post Graduate Diploma in Economics

Introduction

This post graduate diploma programme is designed for people who have completed bachelor’s (4 years) and / or master’s in economics or any other discipline from a recognized university of Bangladesh or elsewhere. It is a nine-month programme comprising four courses – microeconomics, macroeconomics, quantitative methods and research methodology. Courses are designed such that by the end of the programme students should be familiar with up-to-date knowledge in the subjects thought. The participants in the programme are expected to be college teachers, bankers and officials of various government bodies and NGOs with background in economics, and those who have currently obtained the relevant degrees but not yet in employment.

Objective

DScE will introduce higher levels of degree programmes include M.Phil and P.hD. Our endever will be to provide high quality education and training.

Courses

The courses for Postgraduate Diploma programme are:

Microeconomics
Macroeconomics
Quantitative Methods
Research Methodology

In addition to the these courses each student will be required to review and assigned research report or a book and write a short dissertation on subjects chosen by the student and approved by the teachers.

Application Procedure

A candidate shall apply in the prescribed form, obtained from the office of the Dhaka School of Economics (DScE), on payment of necessary fees.

Admission Requirement

Students who have just completed 4-year Bachelors or Masters degree in or not yet in service or those working in various organizations can join the programme on competitive basis. Admission is open to candidate with at least second division/classes at the all levels. Dhaka School of Economics (DScE) shall recognise degrees from private or foreign universities as per rules and regulations of the University of Dhaka.

Selection

Final selection of candidates will be made on the basis of viva voce examination. Applicants finally accepted for the programme shall receive the prescribed form for admission to the university from the office of the DScE and submit the filled-in form and required documents, on payment of requisite fees, as determined by the DscE. On fulfillment of the above mentioned procedures, a candidate will be enrolled and registered as a student of DScE and DU.

Completion

For passing / completion of the programme, a student must earn a minimum SGPA of 2.00.
A student failing to clear up the annual University or departmental dues for the year of study shall not be permitted to continue his or her study.

Readmission

Diploma students who will obtain failing grade in their final exam and/or who will drop out owing to valid reasons might be considered for readmission during the academic year following their year of failure/dropout.

In that event they will of course have to bear the full cost as applicable to any regular students.
