A webinar was held on Remembering Prof. Dr. Nurul Islam and Nobel Laureate Robert E.Lucas and Bangladesh’s Proposed National Budget for the FY 2023-24 organized by the Entrepreneurial Economists Club, Dhaka School of Economics. The event took place on Sunday (June 11).
Speakers said that rural development approach was ensured for the future and self-reliant development with foreign assistance was a key policy to make the economy more diversified.
They argued that in the national proposed budget present govt. is trying to do welfare despite global recession and adverse impact on Bangladesh economy.
Experts argued that Pension scheme should start from 25 years age and end up to 60 years age as present govt. boosted the life expectancy to 73.5 years and arranged a community clinic.
They commented that Robbert E. Lucas’s Rational expectation theory has a lot of implications in the Bangladesh economy and direct relevance to the conduct of the monetary policy by the Bangladesh Bank .When Bangladesh was emerged as an independent nation in December 1971 it was one of the poorest countries of the world as commented by the speakers. Without Bangabandhu we cannot able to get a new soverign country Bangladesh.
Dr. Tasnim sakif,Lecturer, London Graduate College, UK presented the keynote paper on Prof.Dr.Nurul Islam where he quote the comment on our Honourable Prime Minister about Prof.Islam while on National Budget two papers were presented by Mrs. Taslima Akther,Lecturer, Dhaka School of Economics and Mrs. Asrafi Bintay Akram, Associate Professor, Department of Sociology,Haji Danesh Science and Technology University.
Dr. Syed Naimul Wadood,Associate Professor, Department of Economy, University of Dhaka as Special guest observed the brilliance of Late Professor Nurul Islam and his special understanding with the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman for nation building .
Adjunct Associate Professor of Griffith University ,Australia as Chief guest commented that Late Professor Nurul Islam was the inaugural Vice-Chairman of the Planning Commission of Bangladesh in 1973 and launched the First Five Year Plan and his major ambition was to create the nation into an economy of ‘ ‘Growth with Equity’’.
Economist and literator Professor Dr. Muhammad Mahboob Ali Postdoctoral and session chair argued that the proposed budget of 2023-24 is timely and helps the poor and reflects the vision of the Honourable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
